(no subject)

IF this link is correct, which I have no idea, but it's supposedly based on someone who saw the book released in Canada, I will be So. Fucking. Happy. when HBP comes out.

This is, naturally, because nothing else gives me so much joy, a death spoiler. Got it?

Good.

Albus Dumbledore gets murdered.

THIS MAKES ME VERY HAPPY INDEED. I hate that man with almost more passion than I feel for anything else ever. There is a reason that the starting premise of CW was that Harry murdered Dumbledore.

If Harry, pleasepleasepleasegodi'llgotochurchifyouwant, is the one to do it, I will kill myself in a paroxysm of joy.

No one has ever seen me this happy. I hope to fucking Christ that this is accurate.

I'm pissed about the Ginny kissing Harry bit. But frankly, Dumbledore getting killed would be a fantastic plot point.

omg so much hate for that man. SO MUCH HATE THAT IT FILLS THE WORLD.

And really it's all just redirected hate, because my hate is actually for Rowling, who cannot write an actual three dimensional character to save her life, but DD is especially annoying and illogical.

[identity profile] elynne.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
RIP, Deus Ex Machina. Unles another Deus Ex Machina pulls him out of the grave... *glargh*

Best plot point of all: Snape is a hero and gets laid (a lot, graphically), Hermione saves the world, Harry gets some damn therapy, Ron gets a brain.

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-07-12 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I know what Rowling is using as her basis for the series! The Wizard of Oz!

DD is the Wizard, Snape is the WW of the West (drag-queen grandma Snape). Harry is Dorothy, and he wants to go back to Godric's Hollow; Neville is the Cowardly Lion; Ron is the Scarecrow and wants a brain, and Hermione needs a heart!

And in the end it will turn out they have all these things. That retching sound you'll hear is me.

[identity profile] drui-en.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'd be more than happy to be the instrument of Snape's graphic laying. Where does one sign up for this? Hm? WELL???

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Given the state of fandom at the moment, I almost suspect you have to be Ginny Weasley.

*hates Ginny almost as much as DD*

[identity profile] drui-en.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ginny?

.............no.

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
*innocent look* But Ginny is so WONDERFUL!

I have rped with way too many Slut!Ginnys to make me happy.

[identity profile] elynne.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:17 am (UTC)(link)
No Ginny or Hermione; I *heart* Hermione, but her and Snape just... doesn't do it for me. Whatever "it" is. Maybe I'm just waiting for her to turn sixteen; I just can't see Snape going for jailbait tail.

[identity profile] elynne.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 10:19 am (UTC)(link)
If I told you where the signups were, then everybody would know, and we'd have to wade through hordes of fangirls...

... on the other hand, wading through hordes of fangirls while weilding a chainsaw would seem appropriate to the issue...

[identity profile] eirik.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
eh it's inevitable.. the actor died, so.. of course Rowling will kill his character off in the books..

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, they found a replacement, so I shouldn't think that'd stop them. I just want him to DIEDIEDIEDIEDIE!

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
Oh the list it is long.

I don't like the manipulation that he exhibits - and I can't separate Rowling's inability to write well from that. Every other character that has one purpose (ie, Hermione is a library) I can do that with, but not Rowling.

She writes DD like some kind of Watson character, there to wrap it all up for Harry at the end of doing whatever thing DD had told him not to do, despite being aware of the fact that of course if you tell Harry not to do something he'd go do it. So I have to assume that DD stands around and says "Don't worry about the three headed dog/Legilimency/Basilisk/whatever" specifically to GET Harry to go off and do his dirty work. I don't like that attitude, and I don't like his role as the deus ex machina in the books.

I thought that in book five, he was downright nasty - refusing to speak to Harry when doing so would have put paid to the entire "OMG I AM ANGSTY BECAUSE NO ONE LOVES ME" shit and would, coincidentally have solved three quarters of the plot.

While I recognise that DD is written the way he is specifically to facilitate every plot that comes down the pike (it's one of the set pieces of the books, really) if he were a real person and acted that way, I would loathe him very much.

Additionally, I can't stop thinking that he's just completely crap at manipulating people. A Slytherin would be able to get Harry to do all that stuff without resorting to something as callous as very bad manipulation, and DD would come off looking really quite decent at the end of it.

So it's a mix of hating him and hating Rowling's writing that makes me REALLY hate DD. My brain confuses real and fictional all the time, though.

Soo...

You hate the characters, you hate the author's writing, yet you're driving yourself insane with anticipation of the next formulaic installment?

Makes me glad I've never read any of them :)

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Essentially, you are correct. I don't know WHY I like her stuff so much - unless it is that I am very perceptive and see the story she's trying to tell, under all the layers of crappyass writing that should not have gotten published.

[identity profile] 40hex.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 07:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll stick with my Eddings obsession I think :) I know each and every book is going to be the same old crap stretched a bit thinner so they can buy that ivory back scratcher they've been wanting, but I can't help myself.

Cool characters in a nice simple, good v. evil world. So comforting...

Huzzah!
A fellow Torontonian. score.
(and hello)

[identity profile] eirik.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
yup.. I be frae the great white north. lol

and yeah.. it's annoying really. I mean I have a soft spot for the old bugger, cause I had an uncle much like him.. but he was a nutter.. still I think she's all bout the movies and merchandising now...

[identity profile] drui-en.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
frae the great white north.. and rather fond of ales and whores at that. Most excellent.

Oh, she's totally about the movies + merch now. It's sad, really.
Still, as long as there's a Rickman-Snape to be seen, s'all good with me.

[identity profile] eirik.livejournal.com 2005-07-13 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
who doesn't like ale and whores? heh

meh.. if people were throwing briefcases of money at me I'd sign what they wanted.. you want a vibrating magic flying broomstick? $750,000? sure thing.. 25% of every scarf sold? damn skippy? what the old dude snuffed it? damn okay no worries I can handle this...

sure we can throw more angst into the stories.. it'll make for a better movie yeah? How do you want me to rewrite the settings? heh but then I've said it before and I"ll say it again... I"ll be your corporate whore for vast amounts of cash...

unless I"ll sell more by being artistic.

[identity profile] drui-en.livejournal.com 2005-07-14 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
HA.

It really is all about quantity, rather than quality.
