For [livejournal.com profile] elynne and [livejournal.com profile] mcmayhem, who both have engaged in My Little Pony gang warfare in my journal in the past. Someone linked to The Pony Project a while back.

Pictures from opening night

They did a fabulous job with those, and thank god they used the new breed for the project. Rather than, you know, messing up perfectly good OLD ones that I'd be happy to take off anyone's hands.

Apparently they're 18" tall! Which blows me away completely - simply the size of the suckers. I think that the Betsy Johnson one has a foal size regular pony on part of her dress. But it was definitely interesting to look at and I am not getting any sort of thoughts in the direction of customising a pony.

Not at all.

[identity profile] mcmayhem.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
What? That ain't right. Were the giant ones made especially for this project?

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
They must have been - the Pony Project page talks about the artist they're looking at (in the Sneak Peek section) customising her 18" tall pony. That's really the only thing I base that statement on, though, since there's really nothing to compare to for scale in the other photos.

Wholehearted agreement.

Whatever it takes to help you sleep at night, sweetheart. :)

[identity profile] mcmayhem.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
What would REALLY help me sleep would be if someone unexpectedly unloaded a whole collection of my beloved Old Ponies onto me. That'd be rad.

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, if I HAD my forty old ponies, we could talk. But I don't. *curses*

[identity profile] elynne.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 09:52 am (UTC)(link)
! ..... um... I have a whole bunch of Old Ponies, variously given to me by people who heard I was into MLPs. Most of them have been, uh, well-loved - i.e. given "haircuts" (down to the nubs), "makeovers" (with permanent markers), and generally mauled. But, keeping in mind that they aren't exactly out-of-the-box vintage, if you're interested, I'd be more than happy to set you up with a whole lotta ponies. I don't have any use for them, other than as custom "bait" - and I have plenty of 3rd gen. ponies for that. :)

[identity profile] mcmayhem.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The interest is growing. Generally I like them to be in decent condition, but maybe I could give them hair extensions and cosmetic surgery. Then I'd have a whole new generation of ponies modeled after P. Hilton.

oh RIGHT on.

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-10-26 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Now I want to go to New York and SEE it. I hope it goes on tour, and that's kind of sad because omg it's ponies - but I totally want to see it in person.

[identity profile] drui-en.livejournal.com 2005-10-26 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so tempted to go see it.. it's just a few hours' drive for me.

Awwww...

To think that under all that raging angry channonyarrow there's still a little girl who wants to play with her pony...

*sniff*

Don't start with me, mate. I'm in two flamewars right now.

*g* No, seriously, if I could get my ponies back (the full story of which I'd have to lock, because omg it's family drama) I'd love it. Because man, I had SUCH a collection of them - including all twelve birthday flower ponies, which was one of those cereal proofs of purchase AND the coupon AND the money and blahblahblah. And all of my ponies were G1, too, which are the BETTER ones. AND there's some REALLY cool stuff going on in the customising world.

Fortunately, you can get bags of them at Value Village (secondhand store) for, like, two bucks. And they don't generally have a high resale value as is anyway.

I should make a Sniper Pony. I think that would sum up the dichotomy of me nicely.

I've got to figure out how this stuff is done. What's the methodology here? Are there sites? Am I going to hell if I do this?

Re: Awwww...

[identity profile] elynne.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Methods vary; modeling paint is common, fabric dye (I use Rit) is relatively common (for a nice all-over color change without paint smears), re-hairing (pulling out existing hair and replacing it with custom-made plugs) is tedious and only for the very dedicated. Yes, there are sites out there for all of these things, which I am happy to share with you if the very idea doesn't frighten you (and maybe it should). Join me in the handbasket! :D

Are YOU the one who's been buying up all of them from Value Village? Because I've never been able to find any there myself, try though I might.

Re: Awwww...

[identity profile] channonyarrow.livejournal.com 2005-10-25 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Nope, I haven't bought a one. But the last time I was in VV (like, last year, burien store) they had a few of those bags of toys that had ponies in and I thought of buying one. THis was before I knew about customizing, actually. It was a nostalgic time.
