So, say you were meeting a new person--blind date, new friend, who knows. And you wanted them to have some idea of what kind of person you are, and who you are. But you can't actually tell them in so many words. Instead, you have to give them a box, with a dozen things in it for them to look at/read/listen to/taste/whatever. What would you put in the box? And a copy of your journal or a link to your LJ would be the same thing as just telling them directly, yourself, so that's not allowed.
* 1 * A copy of Q Anthems. It's got everything from Bowie to techno to punk on it, and follows my musical tastes pretty well.
* 2 * The Brothers K, by David James Duncan. The book has such depth that I always feel it's about my life. And the diversity of the family is similar to the diversity of mine - my siblings and I are very different people, as are my parents, and I think this book manages to capture that idea well.
* 3 * A piece of sage-green nubbly silk. I love that colour, and the texture of the silk is evocative. Rough and almost-smooth together.
* 4 * A full-face mask, white with a phoenix painted on in gold and with a gypsy coin scarf at the top. I have never removed all the masks, and keep reinventing myself.
* 5 * A belladonna scented candle. The beauty of fire and the smell of a poison.
* 6 * A print of Edward Hopper's Railroad Sunset. I've had a print of this for years, and I love the colours in the sky and the simplicity of the painting. It is able to represent great complexity with ease.
* 7 * Sinead O'Connor's Troy. This is the closest I have found to a perfect song. It has a lot of meaning to me, not all of them good, but not all of me is a good memory.
* 8 * The run of Transmetropolitan, by Warren Ellis. I want to be Spider, I believe in Spider, and I believe that comic books are one of the ways in which literature is going to change in this century.
* 9 * A spiked collar. I am not a thing to be controlled, and no one does, except me.
* 10 * Captive State, by George Monbiot. A concise look at the ways in which the state is selling out to corporations. I regret that he doesn't actually issue any sort of call to action, but awareness is the first step before doing.
* 11 * A peacock feather, for its colours and feel, and for SCAdian meaning.
* 12 * A drawing of two dragons facing each other over a flame-flower. This will be my next tattoo, and all my tattoos are significant to me - they are on my body for a reason.
