The first stage of my hair dying is done. I wound up reading the instructions on the packet of Wellite as "Two complete applications", which to my way of thinking meant I didn't need the other bit that it turned out I needed.

I didn't find this out until 11:15 last night.

So I RAR'd for a moment, then went to find the packet of Feria Bleach Blonding that I'd bought under the mistaken impression that that was the starting point. I dyed my hair with that, leaving it in for forty minutes, and my hair is now, in the words of Coldplay, all yellow. Lighter in the front where the highlights were, sort of orangey where it was darker. A few streaks of really platinum, which leads me to think that was where the highlights were heaviest.

I think the next step, since my hair seems fine so far, is to take it all the way to white. If I can. I'm not totally sure what I'm doing with the hair dye I got, but I have the right bits of this, as I triple checked, and a violet-based shampoo, so things should be all right.

I think I'll have to keep the blond for a while, at least, given the amount of time, money, and effort I've put into it. So I hope it turns out well.

And if it doesn't, I have a wig. And a haircut appointment for Thursday. So I guess that's plan A) with hair, and plan B) with hair in bathtub drain after bleaching it to death.

And an amusing side note. I've been dying my hair for at least ten years now, although almost always red, and this was the first time that I realised I could not, in fact, leave my glasses on when I dyed my hair. There are definite streaks of darker hair that don't show as much under red or black dye.
