I'd just like everyone to note that I hate September for one reason, and one reason alone.

Birthdays.

Yes. Out of the entirety of my family (that I see on a regular basis, there's a few hundred people elsewhere), which is...*counts*...17 people, 6 of them have birthdays in September. This includes the three people whose birthdays I don't know. They could all be in September. So I have six in September, 2 in October, 2 in November, 1 each in April, May, June, and July, and then the three I don't know.

My holiday season, in other words, starts September 2nd and goes right on through New Year's.

The other part of it is that I'm only marginally creative, and can't ever figure out what to get anyone for their birthday, which only eases with my dad's birthday (October 7th) because he's the hardest person to shop for and then it's my birthday, my sister Kaye's birthday (I'm not speaking to her and haven't for years, so no present there) and my brother's birthday, because we never get each other anything anyway. Then I don't really start up again until June, with my mother's, since I ignore the others for various reasons.

I hate it when people open gifts that I've given them around me - what if they don't like it? Wouldn't they rather curse me and return it quietly, rather than pretend to be happy about it?

Also, I'm relentlessly practical with gifts - I gave my mother Worse Than Watergate for Mother's Day this year, and I gave one of my sisters The Art of War for her birthday when she said she was having trouble at work. I don't give candles, I don't give lotions, and I don't give perfumes, but I might get someone a set of jumper cables.

Yes, true romantic, I.

But for some reason, September hits me like a brick wall.

At any rate, writing this has helped me clarify a few things on my thoughts for a gift for someone. And this is a good thing. Especially since it's not Easter Bunny!Snape porn. This is also a good thing.
