A technical question

Does anyone familiar with CSS and lj layout design have any idea how to force an image resize? I'm on quite a lot of photo comms that don't post under a cut, which is fine, but I've set up a new layout (after beating it to death, since it doesn't come in a friends style, which might be the problem) that means that it shoves the too-wide images (all of them) off the screen to the right. I need to resize them as they show up. I've temporarily beaten them to death by putting a horizontal scroll bar in, but that's not really a permanent solution to me, although it means I can check my friends page without wanting to scream.

There are some other things I'm curious about too. One is why, if I have the entry class (friends entries, as opposed to nav bar) set to have a white font, why do a few entries show up in the green of the navbar font?

Other than that, if no one has any idea what I'm talking about, I'll beat it to death this weekend, but I'm hoping for a fast solution so I still don't have to learn CSS. And I've been informed that the background image isn't worksafe. Personally, I'm not convinced, but there you go.

For some reason, I find the name "Schneepelz" incredibly cute.

It's German for Snow-fur, which is not nearly as cute.
