Is it just me or does the Muppets theme sound EXACTLY like the Cantina Band scene in Star Wars? At least at the beginning it does.

Probably it's some Terribly Famous Piece of Music that I don't know.

Burning History

They used to, so I have been told, build into the sky, into the face of a god who never credited that they had done so and never stopped them, not after that first time.

The name of that god is forgotten. We have our own now, our own ways of coping and surviving and living – we build down, into the heat, rather than up to challenge the gods, massive structures that are not allowed to rival them. We know full well that we are subject to divinity, in the only way they were not.

Our gods exist, after all, and there is no evidence that theirs did.

I am in the hands of a god now, hands that are light and soft on me and are about to turn hard and cruel, I know. For I have been here before, in this exploration of my relationship to things that are destroyed, that are easily broken, things that bleed when they are prodded with sharp objects.

I am a thing that bleeds even though I have committed no sin other than doubt. And surely doubt is wise, not truly a sin, for without doubt, there can be no revelation, no return to the absolute truth as preached by this thing with sharp hands and wicked claws.

There is no truth and no wisdom and no divinity without lies and stupidity and profanity…surely, despite the mistakes we have made getting here, there has to be doubt to be faith.

Or perhaps we merely chose another direction to point to as we sought to create hubris out of the earth’s bones.
