Supposedly, and I say that with a very large grain of salt, they've said something about making music "they want to", and it's being interpreted as meaning more Bullets, less Parade, but I don't buy that. If there's one thing I think about MCR, it's that they make the music they want to, and that they need to, and it doesn't matter what anyone else says.
I might be wrong. I might be prettying up a process that isn't in fact there - the clusterfuck that their visit was becoming by the time they cancelled indicates that I don't know all that happens. However, I tend to that that statement with that grain of salt for that reason - they've never given any indication whatsoever that Parade was an album they didn't want to make, or a sound they didn't like or anything else like that.
On the other hand, this was reported out of the fandom that thinks that Mirror's a coke reference, which I don't buy since Gerard wasn't a coke user at the time insofar as I know, and the reference falls apart at that point. So fuck knows what the truth is, and basically, they could do Cabaret and I'd like it.
But seriously - Bullets doesn't hang together as well as their other albums, they clearly lack a concept for it, and the production, particularly on vocals, is rough, but it's also...purer, in a way. It sounds less polished because it sounds like what it is, and while Parade is an album where they could spend a lot of time and money on polish and concept, Bullets is one step from the Attic Demos and it shows - but it's the right album at that point. And I love the lyrics on Mirror, Sorrows, Demolition Lovers, Vampire, even Skylines and Turnstiles. Headfirst for Halos makes me crack right the fuck up.
Maybe it's me, but the rawness of the sound on that album is a lot more appealing than I'd thought it would be. Also, if you haven't watched it, go to YouTube and look up Vampires Will Never Hurt Me, for the video - it is hilarious, particularly between 4:20 and 4:30.
But you make it sound like you've been a fan less time than I - I don't think that's the case. I don't even think I bought Parade until well after it was released, and before that I was stabbing holes into the dashboard whenever an MCR song came on. Damn Parade for its deceptive intro! Damn it to hell! I'm just sayin'.
Oh god, I need a new subject to rant on about, not just MCR. It's fun and all, but it might be...how shall I say this? Slightly overdone?
