I begin to suspect that I will not have a real job until there is a new president. Then the economy will start recovering. As of right now, however, I have no job, so no one has a job, so the economy, to be polite about it, blows goats.

I base this on my amazing and unwanted ability to be at the front of a lot of trends. Punk came back - I was already there. Bluegrass came back - I was already there. Zombie pirates came to the big screen - I was already there.

So, silly examples, but it's true.

I've looked at Wisconsin as a place to get a job several times over the last month. Because basically, I function better in an advisory capacity. I mean, thousands of miles from home. See Thursday's entry if you don't understand.

Idly flipping open the Friendly Exchange, as a way of avoiding updating Snape, I found a best-of list. The top 25 safest cities in the US. I tore my hair out immediately at the realisation that Bremerton, WA (which I loathe with a degree of hatred normally reserved for Border Patrols) is number 8 on the list, and Olympia, which I like (except for the part about Lacey) is number 7.

"Curses!" I thought to myself. "They'll be unlivable in six months!"

For, you see, I recall what happened when Seattle was suddenly "Most Livable", "Safest", "Politest", "Most Likely To Offer You Breakfast On Sundays" and what not.

In comparison, it is now a raving crack den, with a big whore guarding the door.

(The whore is not the Whore of Babylon, but is, in fact, named Microsoft.)

*computer blows up*

So, I feel sorry for Wisconsin. Green Bay is number 12 on the list. Appleton-Oshkosh-Neenah is number 10. And, drumroll please, Madison is number 3.

So, [livejournal.com profile] jkivela, [livejournal.com profile] niburu33, [livejournal.com profile] exairian, [livejournal.com profile] juniperlore and all the rest of you that I met when I went out there - my condolences. And my advice.

Flee now.

Otherwise, you're fucked.

And not in the spanky fun kind of way.
