So, all right, I hate rules. Wow, I can hear the gasps of surprise from here.

But this leaves me with a dilemma. Do I do Nano this year or not?

Pros:
- I told someone I'd do it with them as a way of getting them to do it.
- Writing is always good (especially when it's not when I'm trying to get ready for work)
- The move will be over then, so I'll have weekends back.
- 50,000 words is an assload of words.

Cons:
- I hate rules still, and would rather use the writing time to work on something that's between 11 and 16 K words at the moment rather than starting over.
- I suspect I'll kill myself trying to come up with 1500 words a day, rather than my normal, lightweight 1000.
- Even more weekend time lost to playing catch up.
- 50,000 words is an assload of words.

Neutrals:
- I didn't do Nano last year.
- I have a story that's about 2500 words in that I could happily trash as it stands and outline for Nano.

I suppose the logical answer is not to do Nano, simply because I don't want to write Thieves, I want to write Dead Letters. Or to do it casually - bump my daily word count and work as if I'm doing Nano, but not, you know, sign up for it.

But I also like shiny things, like things that say I completed it.

Use Nanowrimo as a framework to encourage you to do the project that you actually want to do.

Nobody is going to look over your shoulder and yell, "Hey, you aren't doing it right!"

I say go for it. Last year was my first year of participating in NaNo, and I think I'll be doing it again this year, just because it was such a great way to fully flesh out and move the piece I was working on at the time toward a more cohesive, finished piece.

So I guess my point here is, yeah, do it for the shiny things. :-)

Shiny things are good - and hey, think of it this way: You won't be the only one of your FL going nuts during November. ;-)

Yes, November is, indeed, a special time when MORE of the flist goes nuts.

I'm gonna do it. If it's wrong to start with a partially completed work that I REALLY need to write "over the hump" on, SO BE IT I AM DOING IT ANYWAY.

Just do it and continue on what you want to work on. Just add 1500 more words on it every day or do a bunch of shorts.

*shrugs* I'll be signing up and not finishing this year, I should think. It's just an aid to help you write.

*nod* Yes, exactly - in all honesty, I doubt that I'll "win" this year, but I'm signing up anyway, as a prod to get back in the habit of writing.

I think I'll do exactly that. *grins* I'm gonna work on TDL! I'm gonna work on TDL!

Of course, that might count as the original thing by the time I'm done working out an outline, but I think that it's really quite solid this time. There wasn't enough Terry in the last version.
