Something is wrong with the entire world when the Wet Spot (Seattle's Sex-Positive Community Centre, if you prefer the long name) is having a steampunk-themed pansexual play party.

...yeah, I got nothin'.

I am completely horrified and now taking bets on how long steampunk can last in the world, because I'm going to, in fashion terms, equate it with grunge, given that it, in its mass incarnation, stands for nothing.

I'm really interested in it as a design aesthetic and a fashion statement, and I totally admire the people who do, with varying degrees of successful steaminess, actual builds (I've seen everything from computers to cars) but that core of devotees is not enough to give the whole thing a spine and it's gonna collapse under the weight of its own hubris, exactly as any other unsupported fashion fad does - I've seen that discussed in context with grunge specifically, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's true - anything that has nothing it stands for in the end will fall, and quickly. This is a cheap commercial gimmick, and it's hastening the end.
