I am not going to attempt 1209 miles one-way in my car. I am not going to shake this feeling of ennui and sameness by loading the car up with roadtrip supplies and driving out to Storm King Mountain. I am not going to get "I'll take my chances on truck stops and state lines" tattooed on my other wrist. I am not going to keep googling disaster sites. I am not going to believe that my life has passed me by. I am not going to do anything involving the phrase "Welcome to the 21st century, digital children." I am not going to drive to Oregon, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, British Columbia, Alaska, Minnesota, Illinois, or Colorado. I am not going to dye my hair green merely for the sake of change. I am not going to buy things to replace happiness.

I am not going to give in to this feeling.

I am going to prioritise so that I have more time to not listen to lists and deadlines.

I am going to stop feeling guilty.

I am going to be angry.

I am going to edit.

I am going to study.

I am going to win.

I will always win.

I ALMOST LEFT FOR STORM KING LAST NIGHT I CANNOT TELL YOU WHAT A BAD IDEA THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN FOR SO MANY, MANY REASONS. And then I had terminal ennui.

I think some of it is that I somehow got full points on my Visual Basic project and I literally DO NOT understand HOW THAT HAPPENED, because Fuckhead was less than explanatory, and I'm fairly sure that he'd graded everyone else's assignment, which should have meant a 20% drop every day, and then I thought "Why am I even THINKING about this? Why am I doing it? I want to be at Storm King!"

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT OR WHERE STORM KING IS. CHECK OUT MY IGNORANCE.

... that. The sense. Where is it?

Storm King is the site of a fire - the South Canyon Fire - where fourteen firefighters were killed in 1994 under fairly terrible circumstances. I've been to the Wildlands Firefighter Memorial in Prineville Oregon, and I got very upset last night as I realised how much work the main groups concerned with the Prineville HotShots (most of the deaths were on that crew) have gone to to elide the deaths. Yeah, it was fifteen years ago. Why does the Chamber of Commerce site not mention the memorial? Why does the Hot Shots crew page not mention it?

I am TERRIBLY emo, obvs. All the other places in my Tweet were disaster sites. GO ME.

I was hoping that I would get FORTY PERCENT, which so far as I knew, was full credit that I could achieve since I was THREE DAYS LATE, and I'd heard that he'd graded some peoples' work already. I am so confused by him.

Oh please, I wouldn't be me if I wasn't ferociously interested in natural disasters where someone DIES, preferably horribly. In the Hinckley fire of 1894, one quarter of the population of the affected towns DIED, and the fire was so hot that at least fifteen men were, essentially, cremated on the spot. NO REMAINS WERE EVER FOUND because they were GONE.

Ladies and gentlemen, that's what I do in *my* spare time. I study HUMAN PAIN.

Bwah, for some reason I'm much more into human disasters - war, torture, abuse, avoidable things.

Well, butting in here, but have you ever thought about writing about it? This is exactly the sort of topic that my workplace looks for essays on all the time - admittedly, either kids' shit or academic, but there's a lot of other places that'd take a short feature on it as well. It sounds like an amazing topic.

If you do hit Minnestoa or Illusinois you'd better come see us!

((and I know, you deserve a visit from me first...))

Dude, if Del and I make to Chicago for Christmas (not sure if this is actually going to happen) I will totally hit you up for a visit. I travel more now that I have no job.

A bright side? I have a bed and a couch, and as long as dog hair isn't a problem you guys are welcome to crash.

HEY HEY HEY. *g* I've also posted an entry trying to figure out how serious anyone is about this, so hopefully ... I really want to go to Chicago and the chance to see you and your crew again is a pretty good enticement, SO.
