The thing that scares me the most is that now they're not even constrained by the need to be re-elected in four years.

More on the election later, because I can't stand anyone right now and want to inflict pain and suffering.

Also, if terrorists were to attack the US in the next four years, I would wind up laughing and crying at the same time. You people who voted for Bush are quite simply fucking stupid if you think that the committee behind the mask is interested in preventing terrorism.

EDIT: Anyone else find that their response to the election was the desire to do what Spider did and simply write the word "fuck" 8000 times?

Yeah, I'm with you on that. But there's a line in one of the eps of Transmet where Spider's editor says "I want to see 8000 words from you on the election. 8000 useable words. I don't want to see what you did when the Beast got elected and you wrote "fuck" 8000 times." Something like that anyway.

I've said it so many times now it requires exponential notation to represent clearly.

A mole of fuck, except in positive notation rather than negative.

Fuck x ten to the positive twenty third. Jesus, I'm going to go say fuck some more.

Let's all secede.

I hate that man, and personally I'm all for sterilising and killing unrepentant republicans. The country didn't just shift to the right, it tapdanced over, with a smirk on its face.

Why are they not constrained by the need to be re-elected? What happens in four years' time?

We'll have new candidates. In theory it'll be Dick Cheney versus whoever the Dems put up, but you can only serve two terms sequentially. There's some debate about whether or not you can ONLY serve two terms - my understanding is that we do some strange things to honour presidents. When Lincoln was elected to his second term, one dissenting vote was cast by the Electoral College so that Washington would be the only unanimously elected president ever. When Roosevelt (FD, rather than Teddy) died in his fourth term, a limitation was placed that no one could serve more than two terms sequentially.

There's a big move to re-elect Clinton, and I think if he ran he'd have a GOOD shot at getting elected. Unfortunately, Hilary doesn't, I think, since she's female.

So Bush and co can do anything they like now, cause they won't be re-elected. If the Dems actually manage to run a decent candidate, Cheney's health problems, age, and family situation (gay daughter! Run!) will PROBABLY keep him from being elected.

Oh, I see what you mean. I did know that, but I am VERY SUSPICIOUS about what will happen in four years time (admittedly based mainly on random paranoia).

I think you should come back to the UK!

Actually, it's more than two terms. It's 10 years. If a president dies with less than two years left to his term, his VP can then run for re-election and serve two full terms on top of the partial term. So let us all hope that nothing happens to Bush. Republicans have done stupider things than elect Cheney to the Presidency.

A person may not serve more than two terms consecutively as President of the United States, as per the an amendment somewhere in the low 20's.. 21st or 23rd?

They could, however, serve more than two terms, by sitting out for four years. Technically Bill Clinton could have run again for POTUS.
