I ordered Animal Factory today. I do not need to go running all over town to look for a movie with one of the current crop of pretty people in it, since only about three copies of each movie is made and they are never, ever to be found at Blockbuster.

In FACT, what I need to do is MORE WORK.

NO Animal Factory.
NO books on drugs (I bought a box set, I'm so sad).
NO Carnivale.
NO Gossip (Seen it anyway).
NO Detroit Rock City (I may love Ed Furlong, but not in a comedy tonight).
NO Once Upon a Time In Mexico, which seems the most feasible option anyway.

Although I may lose to Luster. Or My Own Private Idaho.

Or I could call McArcus and beat the shit out of him until he gives me back Dark Harbour.

Mh. Maybe none of those.

books on drugs that you might not have dug through, but i'll shoot anyway, and forget the psuedo-religious overtones, the bizarre new-age shit in the end, it's still a good read, especially the chapter where the couple returns to the chalet and cockie thinks he sees the devil out the window and shoots at it: Diary of a Drug Fiend by Aleister Crowley.

Shall give it a go. Have developed an UNHOLY fixation with junkie hustlers, honestly, and I think I'm working up to actually getting enough competence in the subject to start talking to some - why, I don't know. I play a junkie whore in an rpg, and have had a piece of the writing I did for that published, so there's building a solid background for further fiction, and there's also the possibility of doing some sort of informal sociology, but mostly it's because I'm sick. *g*

i've been surrounded by fiends all my life and managed to never, ever get blazed on anything, even friendly offers for mushrooms or other drugs that i might possibly partake in. i just realised that my reality is already pretty twisted without any help. but i keep these fiends around for entertainment, for that sick curiosity that i, well, just can't get enough of.

but yeah, diary of a drug fiend, fear and loathing in las vegas, lots and lots of great music... mmm. drugs!

See, that's the irony. I've never been interested in doing them either, partly because I tend to have a reaction to drugs stronger than Tylenol that ranges from "bad" to "really very, very frighteningly bad, please don't kill me", so I just steer clear. But it's definitely a way into an aesthetic that I like - gritty, bleak, that sort of thing.

Fear and Loathing is great. Hunter S. Thompson can be really quite cool.
