1 - RAB has got to be Regulus Black. That would explain his death a bit better than the idea that he blundered in and then wanted out of the Death Eaters - and I will persist in believing that it's cover-your-ass-fu if it is, but I'm predisposed to believe that anyway.

2 - Both Snape and Voldemort have used Harry as a Horcrux. Voldemort is obvious - arguably the last relic of Gryffindor's that he could get his hands on. Snape - I think he did it possibly as late as the Sorting Feast when Harry's scar hurt. I'm quite sure that Rowling will, if she chooses to revisit that, state that either Snape was using Legilimency or else Voldemort was on Snape, but iirc, Harry's scar hurts when he makes eye contact with Snape, not when Quirrell looks at him, especially since Quirrell had run into him at the Leaky Cauldron and there was no problem.

I think Snape did that because he knew that Voldie might decide to kill him at any time - but Voldie wasn't going to kill Harry any time soon because he'd made Harry into his Horcrux. If he did kill Harry, in Snape's presence, Snape would be able to kill Voldie without risk because Voldie would be entirely human again. But in the mean time, it's the safest place for Snape to hide his own soul. That's pretty, um, cyafu of Rowling, but it does explain why Voldie's been so unable to kill Harry - despite giving all appearances to the attempt. The love thing - I stopped buying that a while back.

And a bonus question - if Malfoy really did have the Dark Mark, how did no one detect it. DARK Mark, DARK magic, Secrecy Sensor that detects DARK magic. Of course, I have to reread the bit about the opal necklace again to find out how Malfoy thought that it would get past Filch and the sensor, so that might explain it. But - right now, I'm calling inconsistency.

Also, she totally made Crabbe/Goyle canon. *snerks*

I think Voldie made Harry a Horcrux accidentally, with the whole baby attack thing. It would explain a lot, if Voldie had left a bit of his soul behind in Harry... Snape, I don't think so, but I could be wrong.

Yah, if Malfoy had the Dark Mark, surely at least the other Slytherin kids would have seen it in the shower? They might well not have told, of course... but yah, wouldn't Filch have detected it? Yeesh.

Ah well... just have to wait for book 7 now. :P

I have argued SO MUCH (in all three of my games) against underage Dark-marked students that I can't believe Rowling did that - not because omgmyegoishuge but because it just doesn't make sense. Added to the Filch thing, someone could have seen it in the shower, and we don't have evidence that all the Slytherins are going to be Death Eaters - though Rowling does like black and white.

And the Voldie thing - I don't quite see that happening by accident, but I like the idea of the Horcrux a lot better than "Oh, he tried to kill you and just left part of his soul." Or, maybe it was an accident (though Rowling is NOT a good enough writer to pull this off to anyone's complete satisfaction) and something about having just killed James and Lily and Lily's sacrifice for Harry meant that his soul was ready to tear, and the magic somehow backfired. But I can't see it as either really an accident or really intended, but perhaps the prophecy will mean that it was intended.

My brain hurts a lot when I try to think like Rowling so I'm going to stop now.

*laugh* See, the problem is you're thinking about it too hard... have several drinks, maybe some illegal pharmecuticals, relax, read the books, then try to think like her. You'd probably have much more luck that way. ;)

Well, if drink doesn't explain OotP, I don't know what does, so I'm sure you're quite right. *g*
